The Mid North region spans across 9 Local Government Areas (LGA’s) including: Barunga West, Wakefield, Clare and Gilbert Valleys, Goyder, Peterborough, Orroroo/Carrieton, Mount Remarkable, Northern Areas and Port Pirie. The estimated resident population of the Mid North region is approximately 51,000 (Australia Bureau of Statistics, 2017).

From the north to southern borders, the region spans approximately 270 kilometres, starting approximately 80kms north of Adelaide CBD. The Mid North region borders the Copper Coast in the south-west and includes the steam town destination of Peterborough in the far-east. This diverse region also includes the historic Port Germein jetty and coastline and the picturesque vineyards of the Clare Valley. The ancient landscape of the Southern Flinders Ranges showcases the southern section of the largest mountain range in South Australia. It comprises Mount Remarkable, Alligator Gorge and Mambray Creek – all desirable destinations for the outdoor enthusiast.

The region is also home to the Tesla lithium ion battery near Jamestown, the Nyrstar Smelter, Bowmans Intermodal Terminal (Australia’s largest in-land port), and one of Australia largest abattoirs. Manufacturing, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing are some of the regions many key industries – employing 23.2% of the regions workers.
